Conversations on Culture, Disabilities and Queerness
Conversations on Culture, Disabilities and Queerness
28 November, 3 pm
On 28 November, we want to come together at Qwien to talk about queerness and disabilities. We have invited queer people with disabilities to share their stories and experiences.
Our guests:
Rebekka Pimperl is a member of the SoHo federal board, an expert in architectural accessibility and, as an influencer, shares insights into her life with brittle bone disease.
Katta Spiel is an Assistant Professor at TU Wien researching marginalised perspectives on technology and chairs the Austrian Monitoring Committee.
Florian Wibmer-Gschnaidtner works as a consultant at the Vienna Anti-Discrimination Office for LGBTIQ Affairs (WASt).
After a short round of introductions, visitors can join one of the guests at their table to ask questions, listen and get into conversation. After the event, there will be time to sit together and let the afternoon wind down.
Heidemarie Egger, herself a queer woman with disabilities and co-chair of FmB – Interessensvertretung Frauen* mit Behinderungen, played a key role in developing the concept for this event. FmB is an anti-ableist, feminist and intersectional advocacy organisation for women* with disabilities in Austria.
The event will be hosted by drag queen Necrosis, who will also perform. Necrosis is a Vienna-based drag artist, activist and founder of the collective “Dragsau”, made up of performers with disabilities. Dragsau promotes accessibility in queer spaces in order to build an inclusive drag scene in Vienna.
The event is open to everyone, queer and non-queer, with and without disabilities. Everyone who wants to learn more about the lives and experiences of queer people with disabilities and would like to exchange ideas on queerness and disabilities is welcome.
Accessibility
The Qwien event space is at ground level and wheelchair accessible, and there is a wheelchair-accessible toilet.
The event will be interpreted into Austrian Sign Language (ÖGS) and live captioning will be provided.
Assistance dogs are welcome.
